You guys sort of warmed up for Warped by being on Taste of Chaos’ acoustic stage. How was it taking your music and making it acoustic every night?
Ryan Head: It was a lot different than what we were normally used to. For us the song starts out acoustically and we take them from there so it’s just sitting down and re-working it. It used to be real different for us because we started taking a lot from that and see what we can do with it. It turned out really good, a lot of people really liked it and it was a good time for us to doing something completely different.
You’ve experienced the Warped Tour before, are you ready for it this year?
RH: We did the Warped tour like a couple of weeks last summer. It was a lot of fun. A good time. We learned a lot about the tour in those few weeks,
What do you think you bring to the Warped Tour that kids will come see you instead of one of the other seven stages?
RH: We try to bring it on. Like a 100%. Whether it’s two people watching it or two thousand people watching us. We always do the best we can. We’re real different. There’s a lot of energy but there’s other cool bands out there, too. So we just do what we do and hope some of the kids will dig it.
Is it difficult playing a tour like the Warped where when you wake up everyday not knowing when you go on?
RH: Last time, there was like five days in a row that was so fucking hot. We woke up at like 7 a.m. every day after getting only two hours of sleep, driving all night, and then wake up at 7 a.m. Then you would have to carry your gear for like a mile, set up, play your show and then tear it down. At the end of the night, every night, there was like a big barbecue and everyone tries to relax. Everyone works hard all day long and at the end of the night we relax hard. It’s a really good time.
After going through that what makes you want to do it again?
RH: I don’t know what the main deciding factor would be. We just have a lot of fun out there. The Warped Tour is a great way to get our music out there. There are a ton of kids every day that we have the opportunity to play in front of, so we just play hard every day and hope to win some of the kids over.
Are there any bands that you haven’t toured with before that your excited about or any bands you are looking forward to seeing again.
RH: I haven’t look at the line up this year. I’m excited about seeing some of the younger bands. New music. But there are bands like The Dillinger Escape Plan that I really want to see.
How cool is it that this time your new CD just came out to kind of help promote something while your out there to?
RH: It’s cool to let people know the music that they’re hearing can be bought at a local music store. So maybe the vibe from the tour will send them to the music store. Before, there just wasn’t that option unless we went to stores to try and give them our CD. But it’s awesome to have a record in stores.
Obviously the Warped tour goes all summer, do you have any plans after that?
RH: We’re on the road right now. We’re actually coming through Ohio this week. I think we’ll be on the road till Christmas and then take a few days off to spend with the family and then back on the road.
So no rest for the wicked!
RH: Nope, none at all!. We just hope everyone who comes out to the Warped Tour checks us out and here goes the shameless plug, you can hear us on myspace.com or get the new album, The Spore, at almost any store. We’ll see everyone on Warped!
